Mega LAN XXIV Information
Mega LAN Per KELOS3 on the forums (our new Matt overlord), the next Mega LAN will be happening in November.  The details below are basically the same as previous parties, but if you have questions check with Matt or e-mail lcug@luther.edu to make sure that nothing has changed.

Date: Nov. 12, 2010
Time: 7 PM - 7 AM
Place: Valders Pit, Luther College, Decorah, IA
Cost: $2
Pop: Free with admission
Pizza: Midnight, $1 per slice, $10 per pizza

PC Gamers: Bring your PC, monitor, headphones, and a power strip.  Network connections and cables are provided.  We will have the big power bars again so make sure you plug your power strip directly into those, not into each other's power strips.  Daisy-chaining trips breakers and your hard drives don't need that kind of abuse.  Trust me on this one.

This is the old list of games.  I know TF2 has been played at recent parties, but I don't know how relevant the rest of the list is now.
TF2
Savage 1 (free)/Savage 2 (also free now)
CS:S
UT 2k4
Zombie Panic

Console/DDR/Guitar Hero Players: Just bring yourself.  Consoles and couches are provided.

Magic/Scrabble/Monopoly/Chutes and Ladders Players: We will provide space for you.  Ask on the forums for details, or find someone official looking and get them to hook you up.

Halo Players: If any show up we'll provide networking.  Bring an XBox, controllers, powerstrip, and TV.

***As always help with cleanup is greatly appreciated.***

Have a good summer!
The first Mega LAN held in the newly renovated Pit wrapped up early Saturday morning and was a complete success. Three of the four generations of Matt were present, including the first, and I know Matt IV has big plans for next year so keep an eye on the site next fall for details.

Thanks as always to everyone who helped with cleanup and have a good summer!

Mega LAN XXIII - His Airness Edition
Yes, I meant XXIII.  I know there is no news post about XXII, but we sort of held it off-campus and in the interest of not confusing everyone helping organize the next party, I have decreed that this Mega LAN will be designated XXIII.

Since we haven't done this in a while, it probably wouldn't hurt to have extra on-campus help.  Contact DonkeyLips on the forum if you're interested.

Date: Apr. 9, 2010
Time: 7 PM - 7 AM
Place: Valders Pit, Luther College, Decorah, IA
Cost: $2
Note: Pop and Pizza are subject to change.  We haven't done this in a long time and we don't know what Pizza Ranch will charge now.
Pop: Free with admission
Pizza: Midnight, $1 per slice, $10 per pizza

PC Gamers: Bring your PC, monitor, headphones, and a power strip.  Network connections and cables are provided.  We will have the big power bars again so make sure you plug your power strip directly into those, not into each others power strips.  Daisy-chaining trips breakers and your hard drives don't need that kind of abuse.  Trust me.

Still Alive v.2
Mega LAN As some of you know, but many may not, the last couple of Mega LAN's have been smaller affairs held off-campus due to a combination of construction on Valders and a lack of current students on campus. These were exclusively planned and advertised (such as it was) through the forums for the sake of keeping our numbers small enough to fit in the houses of the people hosting.

But now there is a glimmer of hope that we will once again descend on Valders and annoy its nighttime denizens with cries of "pwned!" and "hax!". We've been contacted by a current student who is interested in organizing the next Mega LAN, and although we're still in the early stages of confirming his realness (though shockingly we haven't gotten many bots posing as Luther students) and giving him access to the top-secret Mission Control forum, there's at least a chance of Mega LAN making a triumphant return to Decorah.

So although that's all true, if a bit over-dramatically delivered, there are still no firm plans to report. The main reason behind this post is that the front page was looking a bit dilapidated and since there was something Mega LAN-related to write about, I did. Here's hoping that I get to see you all in the Pit sometime in the next few months for Mega LAN XX...whatever we're up to now.

Fire, fire, fire!
Mega LAN Through the Fire and Flames, Storming the Burning Fields with The Flame of Youth, Hostage Down VI was completed successfully.  Yes, a lot of Dragonforce was played. /me dodges rotten fruit.

And what do all of these song titles have in common?  No, we didn't start an electrical fire, but the TF2 action was hot! /me dodges more rotten fruit...oh for the love, where did you find a tomato that large?!

Anyway, bad punning aside, plans for the next full Mega LAN are in the works so keep an eye on the site for the details as they become available.

Hostage Down VI
Mega LAN Well, its that time again for our smaller, computer only LAN of the year. Here's the facts:

What: Hostage Down VI
Where: Valders Hall of Science
When: Friday, January 9th, 7 pm-7 am
Who: Computer Gamers
Why: Because we can?
To what extent: As hard and long as we can go

So bring your PC. Anyone who wants to help is more than welcome to show up at 5 pm. As per the usual, it is all the soda you can drink for $2, and pizza at midnight as usual. Some games we may be playing or trying out:

Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Zombie Panic, CSS, UT2k4 and/or UT3, Savage 1 & 2, Starcraft, etc.

We hope to see you there!

Spy!
Mega LAN After a slightly slow start, Mega LAN XXI completed successfully with many quality hours of TF2 played (look both ways before crossing the train tracks!)  Hopefully everyone had a good time, and a huge "thank you" to everyone who helped with cleanup.

The next party should be taking place in January, so check back for details between now and then.

Forum accounts
Mega LAN Due to some problems with the Mega LAN database, we have a number of accounts that were lost recently.  If you registered in the past couple of years you will probably find that you can't log in anymore.  To fix this, please see this thread on the forums and let us know which of the unaccounted for users is you.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Mega LAN XXI
Mega LAN Mega LAN is officially back for the 2008-09 school year and our first party has been scheduled.  See below for all the details.

ALL of the reservations have been made so we will have a proper power setup this time.  Which means my poor RAID array won't spend the entire party rebuilding itself this time around.:-)

Date: Nov. 7, 2008
Time: 7 PM - 7 AM
Place: Valders Pit, Luther College, Decorah, IA
Cost: $2
Pop: Free with admission
Pizza: Midnight, $1 per slice, $10 per pizza

PC Gamers: Bring your PC, monitor, headphones, and a power strip.  Network connections and cables are provided.  We will have the big power bars again so make sure you plug your power strip directly into those, not into each others power strips.  Daisy-chaining trips breakers and your hard drives don't need that kind of abuse.

Games you should probably install ahead of time:
TF2
Savage 1 (free)/Savage 2 (free for LAN play)
CS:S
UT 2k4 and/or 3
Zombie Panic

Console/DDR/Guitar Hero Players: Just bring yourself.  Consoles and couches are provided.

Halo Players: We don't have the Halo cave for this party due to the construction, but we will make arrangements.  Bring an XBox, controllers, powerstrip, and TV.  Networking will be supplied by Mega LAN.

Others: We welcome any Magic, Scrabble, or Candy Land games.  At this time Rob is planning to be there so talk to him about organizing.

As always help with cleanup is greatly appreciated.

Still Alive
Mega LAN The cake is a lie and so are the reports of Mega LAN's demise. Despite some web site difficulties over the summer which seem to have resulted in the loss of all our previous announcements, we're in the planning stages for Mega LAN XXI (sorry, there will still be no drinking at Mega LAN's 21st ;-) and should have details posted soon.
